UAKRON’S SUCCESS WITH SLATE IMPLEMENTATION

The University of Akron is a public, R2 research university in the University System of Ohio with a total enrollment of nearly 15,000 students.

Reason for partnership

UAkron sought to transition from its previous CRM and application processing system to Technolutions Slate, while simultaneously replacing its legacy SIS. In doing so, UAkron hoped to gain processing efficiencies, enhance communication reach and functionality, bring graduate admissions into the same system, and overhaul their speed and efficacy in the prospect to enrolled student life cycle.

“The greatest component of the TPG partnership is that you get multiple enrollment managers all trying to help resolve the same challenges. Ideas, discourse, and even solutions are all more deeply embedded in the student-service mindset. Having trained enrollment managers at every turn keeps me from jumping to conclusions, over-estimating impact, and overreacting when things go a certain way. I don’t typically have a lot of enrollment managers on campus to run scenarios with during the planning stages, but I do with TPG. They bring both strategy and solutions to discussions when I lack the resources to develop either one the way I need. It’s good to have knowledgeable experts in your corner.”

TPG’s Approach

TPG partnered with UAkron to implement Slate for undergraduate and graduate admissions with a broad-spectrum approach to system usage. While application processing was paramount at the outset, other functionalities from financial aid to new student orientation and beyond are coming on board. For the context of application processing, TPG helped UAkron reconsider the mechanisms to solicit applications, complete checklists and materials, speed up data entry, and automate the bulk of decisioning, while enhancing student communication throughout the process.

Outcomes

UAkron transforms application processing efficiency with Slate.

In year one using Slate for undergraduate application processing, UAkron saw a 35% increase in application processing efficiency from app received to decision released over their legacy system combination.
